Our recent work
Our list of clients at Model Ships is growing constantly as the business keeps on evolving. We often work with private individuals whose requirements are varied, though for reasons of privacy we cannot name them. But we are glad to report an on-going following among our clients, backed up by our unparalleled customer testimonials.
The current record for most number of models purchased this year is held by Mr Ringrose who has so far this year alone bought 11 models.
Corporate clients who already account for more than a third of our business are increasing both in terms of variety and the type of boats they require, with the usual urgency of deadlines associated with corporate work.
Recent orders include:
Ocean Partners from the US
DFDS in the UK
Grainmarket Properties Ltd in London, UK
Hanssy Shipping Company Ltd from China
Jumbo Shipping from Rotterdam
Lyons Seafood in the UK
CNG Corporation from Canada
Sharp Design in the Netherlands
Silverseas Cruisers who are UK based
M.P. Princess Yachts (Cyprus) Ltd
Tuco Composites from Denmark
The West of England Mutual Ship Owners’ Association
Sunreef yachts, a luxury yacht builder from Poland
Fred Olsen Cruises in the UK etc
Some of the more unusual items we have produced lately include a model of the USS Constitution (for a private US collector). At 3 metres long, this ship is one of the largest model we have so far produced.
We made a paddlesteamer, the Buckeye State River Boat, which at 2.49 metres is also large, and being specific to the US, would appeal to our regular US clients.
Other rare orders have included a Chinese Junk, the Zeven water line model of La Licorne as featured in the popular film “Tin-Tin”, and a yacht ordered by an Australian client. This one was unusual in that it was a normal sized model (73cm) yet it was very highly detailed, more akin to a real yacht than a model. It was extremely well received.
One that would ring a bell with followers of the 1980s movie Jaw would be the model of the Orca.
Model Ships also produced the well-known 3 metre model of HMS Victory in a bottle which appeared in Trafalgar Square’s 4th plinth for 18 months. This was quite simply the largest model ever put in a bottle. Did you see it? Now probably making it’s way to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich UK.

Rashid Lalloo, MD of Model Ships, commented:
“There is a lot of news and I am excited by the interest in our products and the way the company is growing despite the recession.
Our shop in Barnet, North London which opened in Dec 2011, is now established and already enjoying many repeat clients. It is nice to hear consistent feedback about the quality of the ship models on offer.
In Quarter 3 of 2012, we are opening our first overseas shop (in Mauritius) to cater for the 1 million or so tourist that visit the Island every year.
On the internet front, we are launching a new website called Premier Gifts, in July 2012. This caters for other high end products such as model planes and cars as well as other quality gifts.
Having not exhibited at shows for many years, we are now going out to meet the public and the trade, initially at the Hurlingham Club’s Concours D’Elegance Exhibition in July 2012. Then in September 2012, we will be at the NEC Autumn Trade Fair in Birmingham, where we expect to meet lots of new contacts and clients.
Looking internationally, we are launching a German, French, US and Australian web sites in the second half of 2012. No doubt this will make the second half of the year very challenging for all of us, but the aim is to service our clients locally by appointing local agents.
Finally least but certainly not last, we have recruited Jane Robinson to focus on developing our corporate business and open new trade accounts.
Things are changing fast at Model-Ships.co.uk, despite the very challenging economic climate!”
