History of Saint Geran:

The  vessel was built and launched in L'Orient in 1736. It travelled for the first time on the 11th November to Pondicherry under the command of Captain L. Laurent Aubin Dupleyssis, then was successively placed under the command of Captain Poree De La Toche, Drake and Richard De Lamarre on trips to the West Indies.

The Saint Geran wrecked on the north coast of Mauritius on the 17th August 1744. There were 149 men on board and only 9 were saved. The fate of the ship inspired the french author Bernandin De Saint Pierre to write the famous novel Paul et Virginie.
