There was also wireless telegraph service, meant for the convenience of passengers and also for operational use.  Titanic was also the largest of all maritime passenger vessels at the time she set sail.

The RMS Titanic was equipped with advanced safety mechanisms including watertight doors that could be remotely activated, and watertight compartments. However, the number of lifeboats weren’t enough to accommodate all on board. On account of outdated and old maritime safety norms, she was only allowed to carry boats that would accommodate 1178 people which was just fractionally more than just 50% of the total complement on board the maiden voyage.
