I guess I was surprised that no one
in
Canada was offering these products,
or at least I couldn't locate them. Even the local hobby store in
Saskatoon,
SK, Hobbyworld, did not know where to direct
me. That could be an opportunity for your company. At least the Hobby Stores
could give out contact information for you. Perhaps in the Maritime regions
there is more demand for this product, but the romance of tall ships is not
restricted to that demographic!

In 1787, The HMS Bounty was sent to Tahiti on a mission to bring breadfruit plants to the West Indies with the intent to grow the plant as a way to cheaply provide food for slaves. The vessel was commanded by William Bligh and retrofitted for the breadfruit plants and 46 men joined Bligh for the expedition. The path to Tahiti took the shop around Cape Horn. After a month of bad weather, Bligh had the ship turned around to go around the Cape of Good Hope and then sail across the Indian Ocean. About three months after Bligh replaced John Fryer with Fletcher Christian as Sailing Master, mutiny broke out aboard the Bounty.
Eighteen men stood with Christian in mutiny and the ship was taken with no bloodshed. Bligh and five other men were ordered onto a launch and sailed 30 nautical miles to Tofua, where they were met by hostile natives and one man was killed. Bligh and the surviving men then sailed over 3,500 nautical miles to the Port of Coupang. The Bounty was then sailed to Tubuai, but returned to Tahiti after encountering cannibalistic natives on Tubuai. Christian left 16 men ashore at Tahiti and sailed on with the remaining crew members to escape the Royal Navy. Christian took Tahitian men, women and one baby with the remaining crew. They sailed to Pitcairn Island, removed the provisions and burned the shop to avoid detection.
Thirty five years later, Captain Frederick Beechy arrived on Pitcairn Island and found one remaining survivor, who recounted the story of the mutiny and subsequent journey of the Bounty. The wreck of the bounty was discovered off Pitcairn Island in 1957.Collectors with an affinity for naval history and the unique story of the Bounty will enjoy adding an HMS Bounty model ship to their collections.
